What’s the best that can happen?
Do you have a big decision to make? One that might mean a big change?
Do you find yourself asking – many times – “What’s the worst that could happen?”
It’s natural. Prioritising our own safety is human nature. It’s deep in our DNA. So we tend to focus on the things that might go wrong. To make sure that things don’t go wrong.
But the reality is that that kind of thinking just leaves us feeling stressed and stuck. And ironically, most of the time, the worst never even comes close to happening.
So instead of trying to prepare yourself for a disaster that might never exist, what if you focused on what could go right for a change?
What if you asked yourself “What’s the best that could happen?” And genuinely reflect on that for a while.
What are all the positive things that might happen as a consequence of you making a change or doing something different? Write them down.
Does looking at that list and thinking about those positive consequences make your big decision a bit easier? Does it make it feel less daunting? I think it might…try it!
